  • I hired Joe to replace crumbling steps leading to our garage, parking pads where we had only dirt enough for 4 cars, he also installed beautiful fencing. This added not only to the value of our home but made the walkways safer to walk on. He is a professional.

Our Promise

Clean, Quality Work At A Fair Price

That is not a slogan we picked — it is what our own clients keep telling other people. Joe prices every job in writing before work starts, does it himself rather than handing it off to a subcontracted crew, and stands behind it after he's gone. If a job is done right, a client tells one or two people. If it's done wrong, they tell ten — we would rather earn the first kind of word of mouth.

How We Work

Masonry Specified For Northeastern Pennsylvania Winters

Concrete and masonry in NEPA fail for a specific reason: freeze-thaw cycling. Water gets into a crack, freezes, expands, and the crack gets worse every winter until the whole surface fails. Everything we build is done with that in mind, not just to look good on install day.

Built to control cracking, not just hide it

A solid, compacted subbase, wire mesh or rebar, minimal water in the mix, and properly spaced control joints — sized at roughly a third of the concrete's depth and spaced at three times its thickness — let the material shrink and flex where we want it to instead of cracking at random.

What Clients Say Sets Us Apart

  1. A fair estimate, explained upfront

Free estimates with a fair price, explained before any work starts — it's the single thing clients mention most in their reviews.

  2. Respect for your property

Clients describe the crew as neat, organized, respectful and honest on the job, not just afterward in the finished result.

  3. A finished job worth the wait

"Outstanding craftsmanship" and work "done right" — jobs are torn down and redone if a detail is off, rather than left to pass inspection.

Family craftsmanship, not a subcontracted crew

Joe started in masonry at 12 years old, apprenticing with his stepfather, then spent 8 years in the Bricklayers Union Local 5 before going out on his own in 1999. He and his crew do the work — nothing gets handed off to a subcontractor.

Sealed and finished to actually last

Sealing protects concrete from salt, acid, water and UV damage and helps prevent the staining and surface wear that most acids and de-icing salts cause over a Pennsylvania winter.

  2. Step Two

  3. Step Three

    The work gets done

Joe and his crew do the job themselves, built to hold up through NEPA freeze-thaw winters.

  4. Step Four

A finished job you're proud of

No job too big or small — done clean, done right, at a fair price.

Why Homeowners Choose Us

Masonry & Concrete Contractor In Scranton & Clarks Summit

Northeastern Pennsylvania is hard on concrete and masonry in a specific way: freeze-thaw cycling. Water works into any crack or joint, freezes, expands, and comes back the next winter to make it worse. A solid compacted subbase, correctly spaced control joints, wire mesh or rebar reinforcement, and sealing against water, salt and UV are what actually keep concrete and masonry sound through years of that cycle — not just at install.

We handle concrete driveways, sidewalks and patios, paver installations, structural and decorative retaining walls, stone, brick and stucco veneer, and custom fireplace and chimney masonry. Joe and his crew do the work themselves, priced fairly and explained in writing before anything starts.

If you're weighing a repair against a full replacement, or just want an honest read on what a project should cost, get us out to look. Estimates are free, and we'll tell you what we actually find.

  • Concrete driveways, sidewalks, patios & decorative/stamped concrete

FAQs

Frequently asked

How fast can I get an estimate?

Call or text (570) 815-3864. Joe comes out, looks at the job, and gives you a fair price up front — that's the thing clients mention most in their reviews.

Can I get a color, stain, or pattern in the concrete?

Yes — flat or textured finishes, stamped patterns, and custom color or stain options are all available. Ask about your own vision for the space.

How do you prevent concrete from cracking?

Concrete does crack, but it's controlled with a solid compacted subbase, wire mesh or rebar, minimal water in the mix, and properly spaced control joints so the material shrinks and flexes where it's supposed to instead of cracking at random.

How do you care for concrete after it's installed?

Concrete is durable and low-maintenance, but sealing protects it against salt, acid, water and UV damage — the things that actually deteriorate it over a Pennsylvania winter.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Joe Dougher Masonry Contractor is a registered Pennsylvania Home Improvement Contractor, HIC #PA088400, and carries insurance.

Which areas do you serve?

Scranton, Clarks Summit, Dunmore and the surrounding NEPA area.

Will the concrete be perfectly smooth?

Concrete is not a manufactured product, so minor imperfections are normal — many clients are actually drawn to decorative concrete for that character.
